We Are LDI: Seth Loyd

We took a few minutes to sit down with LDI-Smith Center Service Technician and Tech Up Tool Up Scholarship Recipient Seth Loyd and ask him about his journey with LDI.

Job Title: Service Technician at LDI and recipient of the Tech Up Tool Up Scholarship

How long have you been with LDI? 
I’ve been with LDI for three years now if you include my time spent at NCK Technical College in Beloit where I studied diesel technology while a part of the LDI Tech Up Tool Up program.

What drew you to LDI?

An LDI employee and I were talking one day and they said I should check out the Tech Up Tool Up program. I had tried some other jobs, working at the prison and working in underground construction installing fiberoptics and I just wasn't happy with what I was doing at that time. He told me to look into the program which will pay for a portion of my tuition and $10,000 of tools when I commit to working at LDI for three years after I graduate from a diesel technology program. I made the decision the next day that that was what I wanted to do. I enrolled at NCK Tech and completed my diesel technology degree and now I'm a Service Technician with LDI-Smith Center.

What do you like about your career, or what keeps you here at LDI?

LDI invested in me so I could invest in my future. They paid for a portion of my tuition and tools, and now I get to work for this great company with great people. I'm the first person in my family to complete college and now I have a rewarding career, I just bought my first house. It's all come together and kind of started with that conversation about joining LDI. 

I learn something new here every day and it never gets boring. Our team here at LDI-Smith Center has great camaraderie and each one of us brings something different and our own expertise to the team. All of the guys here have helped me learn and grow. The Smith Center team received LDI awards for sales, parts, and service this year and we all feel like we have a little part in that success. All the little things we do every day add up to feeling invested in the company and we're working together and proud of what we do. 

What’s one thing you would tell someone thinking about applying at LDI?

If you're looking for something to do in the future and you aren't quite sure then look into the LDI Tech Up Tool Up program. It helped me out a lot. It gives you an opportunity to invest in yourself and the opportunity to work for a great company.
