Preparing for Successful Application this Spring!

At LDI we want you to succeed and feel accomplished when you come in from the field each day! As we enter spring planting, application is at the forefront of our minds. Spraying may happen 11 months out of the year, but it is vital to know the right tips and tricks to start this 2025 spray season out right and keep your trusted equipment operating smoothly!

When preparing to spray, here are some helpful reminders to ensure that your fields are getting proper coverage for the job. With the help of our skilled LDI Sprayer Specialist, Derek Hearld at LDI-Salina, and Paul Haefner, an AGCO Application Equipment Division Marketing Specialist we have compiled a trustworthy list to get you going!

  1. Check for worn or leaky hoses and nozzles. By checking that each nozzle isn’t plugged and all your hoses are in working order, you can better prepare for time in the field. Some tend to think these little fixes can take the back burner, but trust us, fixing the little things early will save you in the long run and keep you in the field. At LDI we carry SpotOn® Sprayer products as well! There are a multitude of nozzle cleaner kits to Sprayer Pressure Testers that help your machine be prepped and ready for the field.
  2. Calibrate your sprayer. It’s always important to remember that under-applicating can rob you of precious time spent reapplying to achieve proper weed control; furthermore, over-application is money leaving your pocket with wasted chemicals and possible crop damage. Taking the time to calibrate your sprayer before heading to the field will save you time and money in the long run. “Calibration should be conducted several times during the application season, not just annually,” says Paul Haefner. “Make sure the machine is measuring distance accurately and each boom section is calculating the correct number of acres as the machine is applying. Make sure the flow meter is calculating gallons accurately. Do a catch test on the nozzles you’ll be using to make sure they are in the specified range.” At LDI you can purchase the SpotOn® Master Applicator Kit. This kit includes a Sprayer Calibrator, Air Blast Tip Cleaner, Tip Tool, Pressure Tester, Wind Meter, Mini-Patternator, Sprayer Output Calculator, Gloves Goggles all in a Durable Carrying Case!
  3. Spray Tips. Another important step when planning for a successful spray season is having the right spray tips for the job. Check your chemical labels; they will often indicate a recommended spray tip and usually follow the droplet type of each chemical individually. When prepping for spraying your fields this month, remember that at LDI, our March Product of the Month is 10% off spray tips until March 31st! Stop into your local LDI today through the end of March to better prep for your field conditions!
  4. Embrace Technology. At LDI we highly recommend incorporating more technology into your operation. Aaron Hartman – Precision Ag Specialist (620.295.1004), Alan Carlson- Technology Specialist (785.577.2990), and Dan Byers- Technology Specialist (785.477.5944), are some of the best individuals to get in touch with to upgrade your machines. By adding a GPS guidance system or assisted steering technology you can reduce skips and avoid overlaps which will save you chemicals. To learn more about how technology additives can improve your operation give one of our specialists listed above a call or visit your local LDI to make contact!

In addition to these tips, it all comes down to a trustworthy sprayer to keep you moving up and running in the field. At LDI the Massey Ferguson Sprayer is a powerhouse of a unit to keep your field producing high yields throughout the year. The 530R sprayer offers a level of value at an unmatched price.   Saving overlap and minimizing waste is fundamental to the Liquid Logic System.  These proven designs have been reducing costs for customers on the RoGator line since 2018. Utilizing a simple approach and AGCO's AgControl system, the machine is easy to use and comfortable for the operator.  LDI provides on-site training along with phone support on all our products so you will prepare for whatever comes your way!
